The Douglass Fake Collection
Douglass Fake was not only a passionate fan of cinema but also a pioneering figure in the world of film music. As the founder of Intrada, a renowned boutique record label in Northern California, he led the way in restoring and releasing classic film scores. Over the years, he produced over 800 soundtrack albums, including iconic films such as Double Indemnity, North By Northwest, Jaws, Out of Africa, and The Avengers, with the label celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Doug’s love for film extended beyond music—he had a deep appreciation for the artwork that accompanied the films he adored. Beginning with his early collaborations with CineMonde, the legendary poster shop run by José Ma. Carpio, Doug meticulously built a poster collection that spanned thousands of pieces. He took great care in preserving these treasures, knowing they were more than just images; they were time capsules of the films’ spirit and the creators behind them.
Throughout the years, Doug displayed his passion for posters by curating stunning thematic collections in his home, from 1960s roadshow posters in the living room to Hitchcock classics in the hallway and Warner Bros. tributes in his studio. His love for posters even found its way onto album covers, with iconic images from On the Waterfront and Breakfast at Tiffany’s featured as part of Intrada’s releases.
Doug’s commitment to thoughtful curation and presentation made Intrada a revered name in the music industry, and his poster collection remains a testament to his unwavering dedication to preserving the art of cinema.
