A rare gem by Leonetto Cappiello
A rare gem by Leonetto Cappiello
We are counting down the last 48 hours to our April 2024 vintage poster auction. This rare Leonetto Cappiello automobile poster is one of 10 works offered by the French artist. H. Brasier was an engineer in Paris. In 1901, he began to work with George Richard – whose trademark four-leaf clover is seen in the upper left – to produce cars under the name of Richard-Brasier. By 1905, however, the two men split and Brasier kept the four leaf clover logo. The Brasier poster shows the dust swirling up behind the wheels of the roadster being advertised, implying speed while acknowledging the unpaved roads this early automotive history. Cappiello takes this concept to a colorful extreme with the car emerging from a rainbow colored swirl of motion.
This and many other wonderful original vintage posters will be offered in our poster sale on April 20.
