Today in History: First live TV performance by Elvis Presley in 1956
On this day in 1956, Elvis Presley gave his first live performance on U.S. national television as a guest on The Dorsey Brothers Stage Show in New York. Following a rehearsal in Memphis, Elvis arrived in New York on January 25th. He stayed at the Warwick Hotel on 52nd Street, enjoyed some sightseeing during the following two days before the studio rehearsal on Saturday morning. The show aired Saturday night from CBS Studio 50 where the “King” rocked the world with “Shake, Rattle & Roll”: and “I Got a Woman.”
