Today is International Tiger Day
The tiger, the largest of the big cats known for its orange-and-black stripes, has been celebrated on International Tiger Day since 2010. This annual event was launched after a summit revealed that 97% of wild tigers had vanished, leaving only about 3,000 animals. It highlights threats like habitat loss, climate change, hunting and poaching, and calls for urgent habitat protection and conservation. Organizations such as the WWF, IFAW and the Smithsonian join forces each year to raise awareness and help halt the tiger’s decline.
