The Norwegian, Carsten Borchgrevink, is credited with being the first documented person to step onto the Antarctic continent. Seven men from the Norwegian whaling and sealing ship Antarctic are acknowledged as making the first substantiated landing on the Antarctic continent on this day in 1895. They set foot on the continent at Cape Adare, marking the beginning of human exploration of this remote and icy frontier.
