We’re celebrating the German-born painter and graphic designer Heinrich Campendonk, born November 3, 1889, with a look at his rare and important poster, “Die Farbe.” Created for a major avant-garde exhibition dedicated to “color,” the poster was hand-tinted in vibrant rainbow and green details. The exhibition itself featured other art luminaries like Kandinsky, Marc, and Picasso. Interestingly, exhibition records reveal Campendonk was paid more than double what Kandinsky received for his contribution—a fascinating bit of art history!
