A.M. Cassandre’s famous poster of the stylized gondola on the Grand Canal was originally created for the Italian Graphic Design Conference in 1951. The city’s Tourist Office quickly realized the image’s potential, had the artist change the text to “Venezia,” and then used it to promote tourism to Venice in the post-World War II era. The poster was highly successful and has become an iconic image of Venice and mid-century modern design. This and many other wonderful original travel icons will be offered in our poster sale on April 22.
