On this day in 1965, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appoints the four members of The Beatles, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison – “Members of the Order of the British Empire.” The Beatles are given their MBEs at Buckingham Palace.
