Today in History: Henri Cassiers born in 1858
On this day in 1858, the Flemish painter and illustrator, Henri Cassiers (1858-1944), was born. Cassiers was a trained architect but is best known for his maritime poster art. He worked as an illustrator for numerous popular European magazines in the 1880s and 1890s before he was commissioned to design posters, menus, and other promotional materials for the Red Star Line in 1898.
