On this day in 1945, the Jamaican singer and songwriter Bob Marley was born. Considered one of the pioneers of reggae, Marley’s contributions to music increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide and made him a global figure in popular culture for over a decade. Marley died of skin cancer on May 11, 1981.
