On this day in 1895, the German painter and graphic designer Ottomar Carl Joseph Anton was born in Hamburg. Anton is well known for his commercial travel art from the 1920s and 1930s when he designed numerous maritime posters for the Hamburg-America Line, Cunard and other steamship companies. Anton also created advertising posters for Adler, 4711 as well as posters for the 1936 Olympic sailing competition. He worked mostly in Hamburg but also spent some time in Cologne and Cairo, Anton passed away in 1976.
