Today in History: Graf Zeppelin heads for the USA in 1928
90 years ago today, the legendary airship LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin launched its first intercontinental flight to the United States. The airship traversed 6,168 miles (9,926 km) during its 111 hour journey. It flew over New York at 4 pm on October 15 before it landed at the Lakehurst Naval Station. It stayed in the U.S. for two weeks and arrived safely back in Germany on November 1. The poster below is a 1930s travel poster for the Graf Zeppelin designed by Ottomar Anton.
