33 years ago today, Herbert Bayer, the Austrian and American graphic designer, painter, photographer, and architect, passed away at his home in Montecito, California. Bayer was widely recognized as the last living member of the Bauhaus. His pioneering experiments in typography, layout and design helped set the style and tone of European and American advertising. He died at the age of 85.
